2022 Elected Candidates

As per the DLYC Bylaws, an election of Club Officers is to be conducted annually. The nomination committee presents a list of candidates for Commodore, Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore, Executive Treasurer, Recording Secretary and Board of Governors. Full members of our Club are eligible to submit their votes. The final results of the election of officers are conducted by the three full Club members acting as our election tellers. These tellers tabulate the received votes and present results to the membership during our annual meeting in September. The list of nominees for 2022 Club Officers are presented below including their photo and brief biography. The following list of the elected candidates to serve for 2022.

2022 Commodore Candidate (1-Year Term)

I have spent every summer of my entire life on Devils lake. My Grandfather built our original family cottage by hand in the early 1940’s. As a youngster growing up on this lake I have so many fond memories of Devils lake - watching the fireworks, the Devils lake Ski team performances, and packing “pontoon lunches” to follow the DLYC fleet races on Sundays.

My wife, Joanne, started coming to Devils Lake with me at age 18 and we have been inseparable since then. We purchased our own cottage on Devils Lake in 2003 and began raising our Daughters Alyssa (22) and Megan (20) in the Devils Lake traditions that we have loved. We joined the Devils Lake Yacht Club in 2010 and we have enjoyed it as a destination for our family to gather and create memories.

It has been my pleasure to serve on the DLYC board of governors for the past three years and I would be honored to serve the DLYC members as Commodore in 2022.

2022 Vice Commodore Candidate (1-Year Term)

I retired seven years ago after working 41 years in the insurance business, the last 36 years at Auto-Owners Insurance Company, where I recently retired from the board of directors. My wife, Suzanne, and I have been on Devils Lake for over 16 years and have been DLYC members for 12 years.

Prior to retirement, I served on several non-profit boards including the Capital Area United Way in Lansing, the Lansing Symphony Orchestra and Impression 5 Science Center. I have also served on and chaired a community foundation and am currently a member of its grants committee.

I have been a member of the DLYC board of governors for 4 years and enjoy giving back to organizations to which I belong and communities in which I live. If elected, my goal is to adequately and properly represent the interests of the members of the club and help steer the club towards continued success allowing all of us to take advantage of the many opportunities our club has to offer our members.

2022 Rear Commodore Candidate (1-Year Term)

Keith Fournier

Keith

Keith Fournier, and his wife Diane, have been enjoying DLYC facilities for over 20 years with family. In 2011, Keith and Diane decided to become members and purchased their first boat. Since joining, Keith has volunteered as a member of the DLYC Finance & Audit Committee from 2015-2020 and has served on the Board of Governors for past four years. Keith was instrumental in the upgrade of our new DLYC website by selecting the vendor to host the site and provide the template, designed and populated the entire website, and continues to act as our Webmaster performing all maintenance activities. Additionally, he facilitated the introduction of our DLYC smartphone application. For his efforts, Keith was awarded the “DLYC Commodore’s Award” in 2020 for his outstanding service to the club.

As for his full-time employment, he works as a Global Director of Client Business Management for NICE System Inc. Keith has accumulated 30 years’ experience in both private and public sectors as a Chief Information Officer (CIO), IT executive, and consultant to Fortune 100 and 500 companies. He obtained a Master of Arts and Master of Business Administration, several technical certifications and professional designations including Project Management Professional (PMP) and the Advanced Project Management Certification (APMC). Additionally, Keith has experience participating on many non-profit, public and academic boards throughout his career.

2022 Executive Treasurer Candidate (1-Year Term)

Mona Carmody

Mona Mona and her husband Bob have been members of the Devils Lake Yacht Club since 2009. During that time Mona has volunteered her time in several capacities including the DLYC Ladies Auxiliary, the DLYC Finance Committee, the DLYC Capital Campaign Committee, the DLYC Ship Store, and on the DLYC Board of Governors, most recently as Executive Treasurer.

Mona’s professional background spans 30 years of experience in accounting, finance and leadership roles, at local companies in both Lenawee and Washtenaw County. She currently is employed as an Accounting Manager at the Zingerman’s Community of Businesses in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Her hobbies include golf and active participation in an investment club which she co-founded over 20 years ago.

Mona holds an MBA from Spring Arbor University and a Bachelor’s degree from Baker College. She also holds degrees from Jackson College where she served on the Jackson College Business Advisory Committee and taught business courses part time as an adjunct instructor. Mona and her husband Bob have two sons and reside in Manitou Beach.

2022 Board of Governors Candidates (2-Year Term)

Sharon Jaimes

I am a Virginia native who met and married my husband in Washington, DC. He was originally from Adrian and always dreamed of having a cottage on the lake. His dream became our dream and in 2005 our dream came true when we bought our first cottage on Round Lake. Two years later we became full time residents and shortly thereafter we joined the DLYC where we met many great friends and continue to make wonderful memories.

My husband recently passed away, but our two teenage daughters and I cherish his legacy and our lake community. The girls attend Addison Community Schools where I work in Food Services. I have been a Girl Scout Leader for the past ten years. I look forward to many more years of fun and friendship on the lake, at the DLYC, and in our community.

Troy Landenderfer

I am the proud husband to my wife of 25 years Stacy, as well as father to my two daughters Abigail (24), and Hanna (23). My daughters represent the 4th generation of family members to be raised enjoying the South shore of Devils Lake. As a 3rd generation family member on Devils Lake, both the DLYC and the lake are part of my DNA. I started out at the age of 12 (38 years ago) as a member of the Devils Lake Ski Club and participated in every ski show for the remainder of the club’s existence as one of the ski jumpers performing in the air for all the spectators. During my time on the lake, the DLYC has always been the place where the community came together and many of the friendships I hold dear were forged and remain strong to this day.

As a Toledo native, I attended St John’s Jesuit HS and the University of Dayton. Following graduation, I entered the metals industry in a sales role. This career spanned 26 years. My last position held was as a Vice President with a $5.5B metals company with 5,500 employees where I was responsible for managing the $300M US Automotive Division, Strategic Accounts for North America, and a Corporate Sales Trainer for 650 sales representatives. I was also the former Chairman of the Board for Sylvania Franciscan Academy and am currently involved with the Devils Lake and Round Lake Fireworks Committee.

Most recently in April of this year, I made the decision to partner with one of my lake friends Brent Hopson, to become a permanent fixture in the community by purchasing North Shore Pontoon Center from Doug Haskell and get back to what makes me truly happy, the lake. My hope is that I can become involved in the surrounding community to help make it as strong and lasting as possible for future generations to enjoy. Hopefully the skillset I’ve developed over the years of my career, as well as my commitment to the community, will allow me to serve the DLYC families to the best of my ability.

Mark Schaffner

My name is Mark Schaffner, and I am running for reelection to the Devils Lake Yacht Club board of governors. It has been my privilege and honor to serve our club the last two years. I am proud of how our club has performed and grown during these challenging times.

My wife Rachel and I have been members of DLYC since 1998 and have always enjoyed coming here with our three children, who are now grown, family and friends. It has been amazing to see how the club has grown over the past 23 years. I truly enjoy spending summers at our cottage on Devils Lake and love finishing a summer night having dinner on the patio at DLYC.

In the past I have served on the board of Lenawee Farm Bureau, the Boys and Girls Club of Lenawee and Crossroads Community Church. I am also a member of many agricultural and marketing organizations and committees.

I grew up in Hudson, married my high school sweetheart and graduated from Central Michigan University. I worked for Shearson Lehman Hutton and Smith Barney as a commodity broker and agricultural marketing consultant. After this I was a founding member of a private consulting firm that deals in agricultural markets and commodity hedging. I am currently a self-employed local farmer and marketing consultant.

I have been a member of many clubs over the years but have not found one as unique and special as ours. With the success and resiliency that the club has shown in such demanding times I am looking forward to being a part of what the future has to bring DLYC.
