Club History

Originally built in the 1870’s as the Pleasant Grove Hotel, our Victorian era clubhouse is a historic landmark at Devils Lake. In September of 1940 the Devils Lake Sail Club met with the Devils Lake Motor Club in the Pleasant Grove Hotel. The meeting of these two clubs resulted in the formation of the Devils Lake Yacht Club (DLYC) in December of 1941. During World War II, members voted to retain the club in 1943. In that same year, DLYC member, Morris “Pappy” Crow, suggested that the Devils Lake Yacht Club purchase the Pleasant Grove Hotel for $10,000. Today the Devils Lake Yacht Club still stands on the South side of Devils Lake, where the club maintains the traditions that were started over 63 years ago.

Dining

One can experience fine dining at Devils Lake Yacht Club while admiring the beauty of Devils Lake. The chef provides a variety of entrees that appeal to the taste buds of all. Our Friday Night Fish Fry is a popular weekly event. The DLYC also offers live music on Friday and Saturday night and a variety of theme parties throughout the season.

Sailing

Devils Lake Yacht Clubs own Lightning Fleet 31 was established in 1941. Today the fleet consists of eleven Lightning sailboats. For 63 years, on Sundays and major holidays the DLYC has held sailboat races. Since 1941 the Devils Lake Yacht Regatta has been an annual tradition held in mid September. This rich heritage in sailing has allowed the club to hold several national sailing competitions, including the National Sunfish Championship in the early 1970’s and the National Rebel Championship in the mid 1990’s. Free sailing lessons are available to members and families during the summer season.

Boating

The Devils Lake Yacht Club offers more than just sailing to its members. The club’s private dock has seventy-five pontoon and boat slips that are available to its members for rent.

Swimming

At the Devils Lake Yacht Club families and members enjoy a beautiful sandy beach, beach volleyball court, fire pit and two private swimming areas. Families and members can take pleasure in swimming in a roped-off area attached to the beach or there is a second swimming area located at the end of the dock.

Additional Club Activities

The Devils Lake Yacht Club offers various activities to its members. Activities at the DLYC include exercise classes, Euchre, Kids’ Club and various special events. For small private functions the club offers the Boat House with a spectacular waterfront view of Devils Lake.
